Dental implants, on what each provider publishes to charge

A single tooth implant is three items sold as one: the post in the jaw, the abutment on top of it and the crown you can see. The only complete single-tooth fee published by a practice in this record is The Dental Express in San Diego at $3,000 to $6,000, and it says explicitly that all three are in the figure. That is what makes it comparable, and it is what most advertised implant prices are missing.

What moves an implant bill

The three components are separately priced almost everywhere, so the first question about any figure is which of them it covers. A post-only price will always look like the cheapest offer in the market.

Bone grafting and sinus lifts are decided from a 3D scan of your jaw, which is why they cannot honestly be printed in advance and why they so often appear on the final bill.

Crown material changes the figure and the lifespan. A published range usually spans porcelain, zirconia and composite, and the opening figure is the cheapest of them.

An implant placed at one practice and restored at another means two fees and two people who each think the other owns the outcome. Ask whether the price runs through to a finished tooth.
