19 of the 47 named sources read in full publish a figure; 28 publish none, read 12 October 2026.

The median is unchanged since 26 September 2026 (was 1,395 GBP across 19).

Every figure, with its source

One row per published figure: the figure as the source's own page publishes it, the page, and the day it was read. A figure that is not on a page we read is not on this one.

The sentence each figure was read from (19)

Read in full, publishes no figure

28 named sources were read in full on the dates shown and print no usable figure. They are counted, never filled in.

Methodology

Every row is a verbatim sentence read from the named source's own page through our fetch service on the date shown, hash-pinned to the stored read (the sha of the page's visible text; the raw page is mirrored to R2).

19 of the 47 named sources that could be read published a usable figure; 28 published none and are recorded as not published, never filled in; 2 could not be read (blocked, dead or unreachable) and count nowhere.

The headline figures (median, minimum, maximum, quartiles) are over ONE figure per source in GBP (a source's median where its page yielded several accepted sentences), so N counts sources, never sentences; 341 candidate sentence(s) were refused by a reviewer with the reason recorded.

The fuller derivation this dataset is chartered to grow into (not yet what the figures above are; they are each source's own published figure as read): One row per firm per service on the ONE unit the market never puts side by side.

The Order fixes the SHAPE of each firm's list but not the comparison, and the two headline figures are not like for like: an attended funeral is quoted as the funeral director's charges ONLY, while a direct cremation is quoted all-in INCLUDING the crematorium fee.

So the index normalises to an all-in figure by joining each firm to the crematorium fee actually payable in its area (the crematoria register, dataset 3), and publishes what nobody publishes: the median, range and cheapest all-in attended funeral and direct cremation per council area and per region; the SPREAD within one area, which the CMA's own finding says is the buyer's whole problem; the share of firms in each area that publish a compliant list at all, which is the Order's live compliance rate; national chain versus independent at the same postcode; and repriced-since the previous read, per firm.

341 candidate sentences on these pages were refused by a reviewer; each refusal and its reason is recorded in the review ledger.
